Wind Chimes
Parterre Gallery, Sapir College Gallery
Curators: Roy Brand (Parterre), Tamar Roded Shabtai (Sapir)
Wind Chimes is a show featuring charcoal drawings and five, hand built, computer controlled wind chimes which receive wind readings from an anemometer positioned outside the gallery, ringing when the wind outside blows, increasing intensity as the wind grows stronger.
The work highlights the connection and tension between the isolated gallery space and the world outside. The Parterre version had the wind meter positioned right outside the gallery which offered an experience of watching the wind through the window and hearing the chimes react; whereas the Sapir college version had the meter positioned on my veranda in the center of Israel, sending its signals via internet to Sapir college in the south of Israel, stressing the distances between center and periphery and between the work’s origin and its destination.
